Gates |
|
|
A gate is a symbol of transition, generally delineating a shift from one context to another. Passage through a
gate may imply an increase in value or power, or it may provide refuge from hardship. In these paintings the two-dimensional canvas
is a gate that provides an entry from the material to the spiritual realm. The gate is an invitation to delve into ones
unconscious and to encounter the powerful forces therein. This series expresses the rich and multi-layered internal space that we encounter when we focus our attention inward. The serpentine line is the energy that sparks the initial encounter, and then continues to pull us ever deeper. This line is known in the Sanskrit as kundalini (literally, coiled one), and is the catalyst for human transformation. By engaging with the lines and allowing them to pull us into the mystical space of the painting, we enter a vast inner landscape, at the center of which is profound stillness. |
